Overview

Regeneration is a historical fiction novel by Pat Barker, published in 1991. It is the first in a trilogy of novels that also includes The Eye in the Door (1993) and The Ghost Road (1995). Regeneration is set during World War I and focuses on the real-life relationship between British soldier and poet Siegfried Sassoon and his psychiatrist, Dr. W.H.R. Rivers. The novel explores the psychological trauma of war and the ways in which it can be both caused and treated.
