Overview

Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind, published in 1989, is a young adult novel by American author Suzanne Fisher Staples set in the Cholistan Desert of Pakistan. The story follows Shabanu, a spirited young girl, as she grapples with the expectations of her traditional nomadic culture. Facing the pressures of arranged marriage and societal norms, Shabanu must navigate the complexities of love, family loyalty, and personal freedom. Shabanu won the Newbery Honor in 1990 and was followed by a sequel, Haveli, in 1993.
