Overview

White Noise, published in 1985, is a novel by American author Don DeLillo that explores the fear of death and the role of technology in modern society. The novel follows Jack Gladney, a professor of Hitler studies at a small liberal arts college, and his family as they confront a toxic chemical cloud known as the Airborne Toxic Event. DeLillo’s narrative explores the intersection of media saturation, consumer culture, and the fragility of human mortality. White Noise won the National Book Award for Fiction in 1985.
