Overview

Schindler’s List is a 1993 American historical epic directed and produced by Steven Spielberg. Predominantly shot in black and white, the film stars Liam Neeson as historical figure Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who saved the lives of 1,200 Jews by employing them in his factories in German-occupied Poland during the Holocaust. Filmed by Spielberg in a documentary-style, the film uses Schindler’s story to explore the unspeakable evil of the Nazi regime and the profound difference that one individual can make in the lives of others. Despite Spielberg’s initial hesitation to direct a film about the Holocaust, Schindler’s List was released to broad acclaim from critics and audiences alike, winning seven Academy Awards including Best Picture.
