Feyre Archeron

A brave, passionate, and fiery woman-turned-faerie, and the protagonist of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Though she now serves as High Lady of the Night Court, imbued with immortality and a wide range of magical powers, she was once a human woman living in poverty. As a result of her background, she views her current life as a priceless gift but nevertheless frets about spending money. She cares deeply about her friends and her mate, Rhysand, as well as her two sisters, Nesta and Elain. When she is not conducting her duties as High Lady, she processes her own feelings through painting.

Rhysand

Feyre’s mate and High Lord of the Night Court. Though he is kind, open, and informal with his friends and loved ones, he is quick to remind his enemies that he is the most powerful High Lord in Prythian due to his ability to tap into vast reservoirs of power. Though he is half-Illyrian by birth, he has a difficult relationship with the Illyrians.

Nesta Archeron

Oldest sister of Feyre and Elain. Like her sisters, she was a human prior to her transformation into a faerie. Even before her transformation, she was sharp-tongued quarrelsome. Now, she deeply resents the new life that has been forced upon her and pushes others away, including her sisters and her faerie mate, Cassian.

Elain Archeron

Middle sister of Nest and Feyre. Alongside Nesta, she was transformed into a faerie, gaining the power of prophecy in the process. After the war, she grieves the death of their father and busies herself by attending to her garden and cooking. She is in high spirits throughout the festive Solstice season but privately mourns the loss of her former life and the abrupt end of her engagement to a human male, Lord Graysen. Though she has little interest in her mate, Lucien, she shows a growing affection for Azriel.

Tamlin

Former fiancé of Feyre and High Lord of the Autumn Court. His relationship with Feyre began with promise but soured after their traumatizing experiences at the hands of an evil sorceress named Amarantha. In the wake of those experiences, he treated Feyre in a controlling and abusive manner that exacerbated her trauma and ultimately pushed her away from him. Now, he is miserable and alone, isolated in his once-grand palace.

Cassian

General of Rhysand’s armies and a member of his Inner Circle. Cassian is a powerful Illyrian warrior with centuries of experience in combat. His mother gave birth to him outside of marriage, and as a result, both were shunned by Illyrian society. As an adult, he mercilessly slaughtered those who he holds responsible for his mother’s torment and now dedicates himself to reforming Illyrian society by providing opportunities for females to receive combat training. Though he is connected to Nesta by the mating bond, they are not partners and frequently quarrel.

Azriel

Rhysand’s spymaster and a member of his inner circle. During his childhood, he was severely isolated by his Illyrian family due to his status as an illegitimate son, spending most of his time imprisoned in the dark. As a result, he wields the power to control shadows and carries a strong grudge against Illyrian society.

Amren

Rhysand’s second in command and a member of his Inner Circle. Amren was born in another world and is far older than her friends and perhaps Prythian itself. At the conclusion of the war with Hybern, she permanently bound herself to the form of a faerie and she now struggles with her new body, including the need to eat solid food. She is romantically involved with Varian, prince of the Summer Court, enjoys puzzles, and fosters a surprising friendship with Nesta.

The Morrigan, or “Mor”

Close friend of Feyre and a member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle. Centuries earlier, Mor was cruelly betrayed by her family after she deliberately sabotaged a strategic arranged marriage to Eris, heir of the Autumn Court. After Rhysand makes a deal with her father, Keir, for military support in the war with Hybern, Keir and his men are allowed to visit Velaris, a prospect that causes distress to Mor. She develops a private plan for dealing with her father, though she does not tell the others about this.

Lucien Vanserra

The youngest son of Beron, High Lord of the Autumn Court, and former right-hand-man of Tamlin before he betrayed Tamlin and accompanied Feyre to the Night Court in order to get closer to Elain, his mate. Exiled from both the Autumn and Spring Courts, he finds companionship with two humans, Jurian and Vassa. Elain rebuffs his attempts to get closer to her.

Eris

Eldest son of Beron, heir to his throne, and former fiancé of Mor. He informs Rhysand that Tamlin is not securing the border to the human lands.

Varian

Prince of Adriata, capital city of the Summer Court. He is romantically involved with Amren and spends the Winter Solstice in Velaris.

Ressina

A faerie with pale green skin. She leads a group of artists in The Rainbow, the artists’ quarter of Velaris.

Aranea

A weaver in Velaris whose partner died after volunteering to fight in the Night Court army during Hybern’s attack on Adriata. She weaves a tapestry that catches Feyre’s eye due to its dark black cloth and striking silver thread.

Devlon

Leader of the Windhaven Camp, one of several Illyrian military camps. Though he resists Rhysand and Cassian’s attempts at reform, he keeps to his promise to offer combat training to Illyrian females despite his reservations.

Emerie

A young Illyrian female in the Windhaven Camp. She operates her father’s store after his death, defying traditional gender roles.

Nuala

A half-faerie, half-wraith, she can easily disappear into the shadows. She serves alongside her sister Cerridwen as a cook for Feyre and Rhysand in the town house. Additionally, she is one of Azriel’s spies.

Cerridwen

Like her sister Nuala, she is half-faerie and half-wraith. The two serve as cooks in the town house and work as spies for Azriel.

Keir

Steward of the Court of Nightmares and leader of the Darkbringer legions. After his daughter, Mor, sabotaged her engagement to Eris, he treated her with brutality and left her on the border of the Autumn Court, nailing a letter to her stomach that disclaimed any future responsibility for her.

Kallon

A young Illyrian male who sews the seeds of rebellion against Rhysand in the Ironcrest camp.
