It is in collectivities that we find reservoirs of hope and optimism.

When Davis gave the interviews and speeches collected in Freedom Is a Constant Struggle, she had been fighting for freedom for more than fifty years. Thus, this expression of “hope and optimism,” which closes her third interview (in Section Three), is crucial. Davis admits that the work that needs to be done to achieve freedom can seem daunting, but she finds inspiration in her fellow activists. In groups, she insists, people are stronger and more resilient. The struggle to achieve freedom will only succeed when groups of people come together, forming movements and demanding radical change. When combined in this way, people can access previously unrecognized “reservoirs” of hope.
