Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire (1976) is a gothic horror novel and the first installment in The Vampire Chronicles series
. The story follows Louis de Pointe du Lac, a 200-year-old vampire who recounts his life story to a young interviewer. Set across 18th and 19th century New Orleans and Paris, the novel explores themes such as the burden of immortality, the process of grief, the lure of temptation, and the pursuit of a purpose. The book became a bestseller and launched a decades-long franchise consisting of thirteen books. A film adaptation was released in 1994, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. In 2022, the novel was adapted into a television series as part of AMC’s Immortal Universe.
