Overview

Johnny Tremain, a 1943 historical fiction novel by Esther Forbes, tells the story of a young apprentice to a silversmith living in Boston in the years leading up to the American Revolution. Johnny is injured in a tragic accident and forced to find a new trade, which leads him to become involved in the Sons of Liberty and the events preceding the Boston Tea Party. Johnny Tremain won the 1944 Newbery Medal and went on to become a classic of historical fiction for young people. It was adapted into a 1957 Disney film of the same name.
