Alice Sebold’s 2002 The Lovely Bones begins with the murder of Susie Salmon by her neighbor, George Harvey
. Susie narrates the story from heaven, where she watches her family and friends adapt with difficulty to her death and recounts the police investigation into Harvey’s crime. Exploring themes of loss and recovery, the novel follows the characters as they try to move on from the tragedy.
