To discover more about Nesta Archeron, read about her role in A Court of Wings and Ruin

During the war against Hybern, Nesta slowly began to come out of her shell, working alongside others in order to protect her family and save humanity from subjugation by faeries. She slowly warmed up to Cassian, her mate, even shielding him with her body when attacked by the King of Hybern. Now, however, Nesta is aimless and withdraws further into herself. She has a particularly difficult time adjusting to the more ordinary pace of life after the war and pushes others away, even Elain, to whom she was previously very close. In her state of self-isolation, she moves into a dingy apartment and frequents dirty bars where she drinks heavily and goes home with random males, worrying her sisters.

Through her story, the novel suggests that recovery from trauma can be a long process marked by setbacks and obstacles. When Cassian attempts to walk her home following the Solstice celebration that she only attended to ensure that Feyre would continue to pay the rent on her apartment, Nesta cruelly rebuffs his attempt to reach out to her and insists that she wants nothing to do with the “happy little circle” that Feyre has built around herself. In her unhappiness, she cannot tolerate the happiness of others.
