Louis and Claudia traveled through a dark forest in search of the vampire that killed Emily. After a long, tense journey, they reached a ruined monastery deep in the mountains. The place felt cold, dark, and lifeless, but Claudia was certain something was there. As they climbed through the ruins, she heard footsteps getting closer.

A massive vampire appeared from the shadows, carrying a body and heading straight toward the monastery tower. Louis realized immediately this was the creature they were looking for. The creature was grotesque, with rotting flesh and hideous, animal-like features. Louis attacked the vampire, who dropped the body and viciously fought back. Claudia helped Louis by hitting the vampire’s head with stones. Eventually, the monster collapsed, and Claudia destroyed what was left of its skull. They examined the body that the creature was carrying, and they were horrified to discover it was Morgan, who was barely alive. Claudia drank from Morgan, and she urged Louis to drink his blood to regain strength, but he refused. Together, they descended down the mountain.

Back in the village, Louis informed the villagers that the monstrous vampire had been killed. He and Claudia took shelter in a small room to rest, and overwhelmed by his exhaustion, Louis fell into a strange trance. In his hallucination, he saw a vision of Lestat alive and holding a bloodied rat. Louis struggled to understand his disturbing vision when he suddenly collapsed into Claudia’s arms and lost consciousness.

Back in the present-day interview, Louis reflects on his journey through Transylvania, Hungary, and Bulgaria, where every village had myths about the undead and some knowledge of vampires. But when Louis and Claudia found vampires, they were mindless and decayed with no humanity left. The interviewer asks Louis how these vampires could be so different from him and Claudia, and Louis tells him that these vampires lived in despair. He goes on to say that he feared these were the only types of vampires remaining and was troubled by the thought that Lestat was the last remaining conscious vampire like themselves. Despite Louis's hatred for Lestat, he found himself haunted by dreams and visions of him throughout his travels. Meanwhile, Claudia continued to try to understand her origin story. She forced Louis to tell her more about the night she was turned, hoping to learn what made the mindless ones different from her.

Continuing their travels, Louis and Claudia arrived in Vienna. Claudia persistently asked Louis if he had sired vampires before, and questioned why the vampires they’d seen in Europe were so different from them. Louis insisted he had not made more vampires, although he did not share the whole truth. Eventually, Louis and Claudia settled in a hotel where Claudia questioned whether Lestat had truly given his blood when he turned Louis. She wondered if Louis himself had fathered any “orphans” without knowing it, but Louis insisted again that he hadn’t. Despite her hatred for Lestat and his abuse, she acknowledged that they were a complete family when he was still alive.

After reflecting on their troubled past and uncertain future, Claudia ultimately decided that they needed to leave Vienna and go to Paris instead. She said they had done everything wrong from the start and needed to seek vampires like themselves, understand their past, and speak in their native language, French.
