Louis tells the interviewer that he failed to recognize the early signs of Claudia’s growing unhappiness. Once a source of joy for both him and Lestat, Claudia had become withdrawn, often staring at Lestat with silent contempt. Though her behavior turned increasingly violent, Lestat refused to acknowledge that she was no longer a child. He clung to the illusion of control, unwilling to accept her transformation.

One day, Lestat and Louis ventured into the long-abandoned kitchen across the courtyard and discovered the bodies of their two missing house servants. Enraged, Lestat immediately blamed Claudia for the murders, furious that she had acted without his permission. Louis, however, urged him to show compassion.

Later, Claudia returned home carrying flowers for All Saints’ Day. Lestat confronted her about the dead servants, but instead of cowering, Claudia calmly turned the conversation on him. She demanded to know who had made her a vampire and why, and she challenged Lestat’s authority and forced him to face the consequences of his actions.

From that moment on, the dynamic changed between Louis, Lestat, and Claudia. Claudia withdrew further, spending her days buried in books on the occult, searching for answers about her origins. Lestat, growing increasingly paranoid, distracted himself with indulgence and feeding sprees, while keeping a suspicious eye on Claudia.

Eventually, Claudia turned her questions to Louis. She begged him to tell her the truth about her creation. Louis, heartbroken, told her he didn’t know. But when pressed, he finally confessed the truth: he had fed on her the night she was found beside her dead mother, and it was Lestat who had turned her into a vampire.

Shaken and furious, Claudia ran from the house. Louis followed and found her distraught. She declared that she hated both him and Lestat. Though she ran off again, she eventually returned to Rue Royale—not because she forgave Lestat, but because she loved Louis. She confessed that she had always loved him and now understood that he saved her because he wanted her to be part of life forever.

After their reconciliation, Claudia told Louis they only had one option: they had to leave Lestat behind.
