Louis and Claudia devised a plan to escape from Lestat by fleeing to Europe. Though fearful of how Lestat might react, Louis reluctantly agreed to go along with the plot. In the meantime, Claudia began provoking Lestat, questioning him about his vampire origins—questions that enraged him, as they forced him to confront parts of his past he refused to acknowledge.

While walking through the streets of New Orleans, Claudia confided in Louis that she intended to kill Lestat to free them both. Louis warned her of Lestat’s strength and unpredictability, urging her to reconsider, but Claudia was resolute. She asked Louis not to interfere.

Worried, Louis followed her one night and discovered that she had been luring victims in with her charm and then killing them. In that moment, he realized Claudia had fully embraced her predatory nature. Excited by the prospect of murdering Lestat, she claimed that once he was dead, she would inherit his power. Again, Louis tried to reason with her, but her mind was made up. Alone, Louis wandered the streets, watching a young boy pass by—an encounter that made him painfully aware of how far he’d drifted from his own humanity.

In the present-day interview, the interviewer asks directly whether Claudia succeeded in killing Lestat. Louis doesn’t give a straightforward answer. Instead, he tells a story: years earlier, Lestat had befriended a mortal musician, showering him with flattery and gifts, all while maintaining control over him. In a rare good mood, Lestat visited the musician’s flat—an outing that played perfectly into Claudia’s plan.

That night when Lestat returned, he told Louis he hadn’t killed the musician. The revelation surprised Louis. For a moment, he wondered if Lestat was capable of change—or if this, too, was part of his manipulative performance.

Later, Claudia entered the room and offered Lestat a truce. She presented him with two young boys to feed on, not revealing that she had secretly laced their blood with absinthe. The moment Lestat drank from them, he collapsed. Louis, horrified, tried to stop Claudia—but it was too late. She stabbed Lestat repeatedly, and Louis watched in shock as Lestat’s body withered before his eyes, shrinking into something barely recognizable.
