Overview

Ordinary People, published in 1976, is a novel by American author Judith Guest that explores the life of a suburban family in the aftermath of a tragic accident. The story follows Conrad, who struggles with survivor’s guilt after his brother’s death, and his strained relationship with his emotionally distant parents. The novel delves into themes of grief, guilt, and the struggle to maintain appearances in the face of personal turmoil. Ordinary People was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film in 1980.
