Overview

Written by Philip K. Dick, The Man in the High Castle is an alternate history novel that won the Hugo Award honoring the best science fiction or fantasy work of 1962. The central premise of the book is that the Allied powers lost World War II and that the United States is now divided between German and Japanese control. The Man in the High Castle features a novel-within-a-novel that details an alternate history in which the Allied powers win, suggesting Dick’s theme that all versions of history are the product of countless moments that can turn out in different ways. The book was the basis for the Amazon Prime Video series of the same name that ran from 2015 to 2019.
