Epic poems like The Odyssey share specific features, including a character in the role of epic hero. Students will use this worksheet to understand the characteristics of an epic hero, cite text evidence showing how Odysseus embodies these traits, and analyze him within this framework. Does he meet the criteria to be a true epic hero? As a class, review the definition of epic hero and the individual characteristics. Students can either fill in the worksheet as they read through each book or after they have completed the entire text.
