The Issue Essay
On test day, you’ll have 45 minutes to plan, draft, and proofread what the
test makers call the “Present Your Perspective on an Issue” essay. The test
makers will always give you two broad proclamations or thoughts about life,
known as the “topics.” You might even see a quotation from a real person or a
made-up statement. You’ll choose one topic, and your essay will analyze your
position on this issue. In this chapter, we’ll show you how to write a “6” Issue
essay, using the three-act essay structure and the cast of characters you
learned about in the previous chapter.
