Improving Sentences
Improving
Sentences are the second type of multiple-choice question
on SAT II Writing. Each of the 16 Improving Sentences questions
consists of a single sentence with one underlined word or phrase.
Unlike Identifying Sentence Error questions, Improving Sentences
questions do not require you to check out four underlined parts
of the sentence to look for an error; only that one underlined part
will contain an error. Your job with that underlined portion of
the sentence is twofold. First, you must figure out if there is
a problem with the underlined part. Then, if there is a problem,
you must decide which answer choice fixes the problem. Sometimes—
1/5 of
the time, in fact—no error will exist.
The Improving Sentences questions are organized in one
group, which is located right after the first group of Identifying
Sentence Error questions and before the Improving Paragraphs questions.
