First They Killed My Father is a memoir by Luong Ung. Published in 2000, the memoir narrates her  childhood experiences during the Cambodian genocide. Driven out of their home in April 1975, Luong and her family struggle to survive the brutal regime of the Khemr Rouge. Despite heartbreaking loss and cruel circumstances, Luong’s spirit remains unbroken throughout her harrowing ordeal.
