Published in 2016, It Ends with Us is a romance novel, the first in a duology by Colleen Hoover
. The novel tells the story of Lily Bloom, a young woman from an abusive home who struggles to find her way in the world without recreating the patterns of violence from her youth. Moving between Lily’s present and diary entries from her adolescence, the novel explores the complex nexus of love and abuse. It Ends with Us won the 2016 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance and was adapted into a 2024 feature film of the same name. Lily’s story was continued by Hoover in It Starts with Us (2022).
