Colleen Hoover is an American author whose works have topped many best seller lists and collectively sold over 20 million copies. Born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on December 11, 1979, Hoover grew up in Saltillo and later graduated from Texas A&M-Commerce. She self-published her first novel, Slammed, in January 2012, along with a sequel called Point of Retreat in February that same year. Following the series’ success, Hoover quit her job to become a full-time writer.
It Ends with Us was published in August 2016 to critical acclaim. In 2021, the work began to feature frequently in the #BookTok community on TikTok. Its sudden popularity led to increased interest in her other works; in fact, in 2022, It Ends with Us was one of eleven of her books to earn spots on the New York Times best seller list, along with popular works like Hopeless, Maybe Someday, Ugly Love, Confess, November 9, and Verity.
Hoover has called It Ends with Us “the hardest book [she’s] ever written,” owing to its sensitive subject matter and the fact that the book is based on her own personal experience with domestic violence. The book’s sequel, It Starts with Us, was published in October 2022 and furthers the stories of Lily Bloom and Atlas Corrigan, detailing their pasts and present.
