Overview

Oryx and Crake is a dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood that was first published in 2003. The novel is set in a future world that has been devastated by a man-made plague, and follows the character of Snowman, who may be the last human being left alive. Through Snowman’s memories, the novel explores the events leading up to the plague, as well as his relationships with his childhood friend Crake and the mysterious Oryx. Oryx and Crake is the first book in Atwood's MaddAddam trilogy, which also includes The Year of the Flood (2009) and MaddAddam (2013).
