Overview

Franz Kafka wrote the short story “A Country Doctor” in 1916. It was originally published in a collection of short stories Kafka dedicated to his father with whom he had a difficult relationship. “A Country Doctor” tells the story of a doctor who goes to tend to a sick boy. The story features strange and implausible events and details that make it surreal and bizarre, presenting its protagonist as being stuck in a dreamlike state or possibly insane.
