Literature is chock full of quotable quotes. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” for instance. Also “It is a truth universally that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” These lines are both—and I don’t think this is too bold a claim to make—very good.
But for every “To thine own self be true,” there are about a dozen other equally powerful lines that would look just as nice on a poster or T-shirt or Etsy cross-stitch pattern. The only problem? Well, everyone always forgets about them. Today, let’s pay homage to those.
