CALLING ALL SPARKLERS: What’s Your Go-To Fun Fact About Yourself?

We’ve seen the rise and fall of dinosaurs, dodo birds, and the Wonder Ball, but it seems the one thing that has inexplicably withstood the test of time (and is destined to endure forevermore) is… the introductory fun fact. We’re all intimately familiar with the sensation, yes? It’s that jolt of panic when your teacher/Satan’s puppet says, “Let’s go around the room, and everyone give us your name and one fun fact about yourself!” at which point you think, “This sure would be a good time for lightning to strike and kill me instantly.”

You’d think we’d have dispensed with this hilarious nonsense in elementary school, but I’m here to tell you that the farce continues well into college. I had to scratch my brain and come up with a fun fact about myself at my first job.

And it’s not that I hate fun facts. Nobody hates fun facts. They’re fun; it’s right in the name. But coming up with one, on the spot? Forget it. Everyone’s watching. You’ve immediately forgotten everything you thought you knew about yourself. It’s a lot of pressure, and the only way you’re going to finagle a worthwhile fun fact out of me in such a state is if you snap my neck right then and there so that I can die, come back as a ghost, shrug, and say, “Okay, well, I died one time. That was cool, I guess.”

I recently learned that some people have a single fun fact—a go-to fun fact, if you will—that they repeat as necessary. It got me wondering… does everyone have a go-to fun fact? Should I have a go-to fun fact? Probably. Then I wouldn’t be having this whole crisis of identity every time I have to cough up an icebreaker. So what are your go-to fun facts about yourselves? Do you guys have one? Does it work wonders? And why didn’t any of you tell me this was something people were doing? I’ve been panic-blurting stuff like “I’m scared of the pulp in orange juice” and “When I was a kid, I had a hamster named Grandpa,” and losing friends because of it for years.

WE THINK THIS IS SORT OF THE BEST QUESTION EVER. If you have go-to fun fact, then we REALLY, REALLY, REALLLLLLY want to know what it is. Tell us below!!
