Actually, it’s probably a blessing in disguise that he didn’t. If he had been cast long ago as the OG Voldemort, he wouldn’t currently be playing Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on November 18th, and that turquoise coat paired with the now-iconic ginger coiffure would be lost to us. This isn’t Law & Order; we can’t just recycle actors. (Danny Burstein has been on that show no less than six times as different characters, which is just plain ridiculous. It would be like if Cedric Diggory was played by Robert Pattinson, but Cornelius Fudge was also played by Robert Pattinson.)
Anyway, I got to pondering who else ALMOST got cast in Harry Potter but didn’t quite make it. And once I went down that rabbit hole, there was no going back.
