Fan Favorites That Deserved More Oscar Love
Year after year, The Academy gets flack for nominating art-house films that the majority of the public didn’t see. Sure, these films are often truly great and deserve the recognition and attention they receive when the Oscar buzz starts, but they also frequently perform Oscar feats of strength for self-serving purposes—eating the raw liver, to put it in Leo-speak. The snooty pursuit of Big-A “Art” can lead to much-beloved movies being passed over because they aren’t considered “awards-worthy.” From fantasies to rom coms to sci-fi flicks, some of our favorite performances in the most-watched movies were disregarded because of they didn’t have that Oscar-level sheen of sophistication.
