Quiz: What’s Your Kissing Style?

When I was in middle school, there was nothing more mysterious and exciting than a kiss. I remember trying to “practice” by making out with a mirror or the bottom of the glass, a trick my friends and I picked up from a book whose title and author now escapes me. Fairytales (Sleeping Beauty, The Frog Prince) had taught us that a single kiss could transform. The reality is, well, first kisses are more anticlimactic and embarrassing and totally overwhelming than transformative. But—take heart!—kissing can still be fun, and, though you would never believe it reading teen magazines and blogs, there is actually no wrong way to kiss. It’s like eating a Reese’s. Everyone likes to do it a different way. Here’s a quiz to help you determine how you kiss (or might kiss, in the future, when it does happen, as it will).

1. A guy pecks you on each cheek as a greeting. Your response?

A. I feel like I was just ambushed by my Aunt Judy

B. *still blushing*

C. um… a little invasive…but also…kind of nice to get a whiff of his cologne

D. Ooh la la! So French, so charming

2. What do you usually wear on your lips?

A. Nothing

B. Chapstick

C. Lipgloss

D. Red lipstick

3. How confident are you about your kissing abilities?

A. It’s hard to be confident when you’ve only ever made out with your dog, and that was accidental and pretty gross.

B. I’d feel okay with a guy I knew well and trusted.

C. I like to kiss, but I still stress that I’m not doing it right. Whatever “right” is.

D. Let’s just say, I’ve had some good reviews 😉

4. Which celebrity do you most want to smooch?

A. Justin Bieber…from My World 2.0

B. Colin Firth

C. Liam Hemsworth

D. Robert Pattinson

5. What do you drink in the morning?

A. Water

B. OJ

C. Tea

D. Coffee

6. When would ideally want to kiss a guy you like for the first time?

A. After having a few late-night chats about our innermost thoughts

B. Once I know him well enough the thought of kissing him doesn’t make me feel the urge to anxiety-vomit

C. Sometime on the second or third date

D. ASAP—I need to know whether our lips are as compatible as our minds

7. How do you eat a Reese’s?

A. Many small bites, like a mouse.

B. With a fork.

C. In two bites.

D. I push out the center, then eat the outside first before the pushed-out center.

8. Which of the following makes someone completely unkissable to you?

A. He couldn’t happily sit through a romantic comedy marathon with you

B. He’s a knee-toucher

C. He loves garlic

D. He’s a wallflower

9. If you could choose to be any imaginary creature, you’d be:

A. a unicorn

B. a fairy

C. a centaur

D. a siren

Mostly A’s: Eyes open. Kissing’s new territory for you and you don’t want to miss a moment of it—nor do you want to miss the opportunity to make fun of your partner for the weird contortions his face makes during the act. You’re a slow mover but not because you’re nervous—you’re just more interested right now in getting hot ‘n’ heavy with someone’s mind than their lips.

Mostly B’s: Close-mouthed. Kissing makes you anxious—and not in the cute “Oh, I have some butterflies in my stomach” kind of way. The thought of swapping fluids with someone you’ve known for months—much less a stranger—makes you queasy. You want to move slowly, which means long, slow, tongueless kisses… once you’re ready.

Mostly C’s: Wet. You like kisses and you don’t like playing games. Your kisses are as open, vulnerable, direct, and affectionate as you are. You probably enjoy holding your partner’s face between your hands as your tongues do the tango.

Mostly D’s: Lip-biter. Your kisses are not for the faint of heart. You’re a confident kisser and you like it all: licks, bites, running your tongue over your partner’s teeth, quick pecks. You don’t mind playing teacher, but you need someone who will be able to keep up with the “syllabus.”

Are you kissing someone atop a unicorn while taking this quiz?
