What Do You Wish People Understood About Your Gender?

It’s a (troublingly) recent phenomenon that trans* and non-binary identities have been spotlighted by mainstream media in a way that promotes social equality for these identities. While this is certainly a giant leap in the right direction, we have a long way to go before the spectrums of gender identity and gender expression become concepts that a majority of the population understand and accept.

Gender is complicated, it’s complex, and it means something different to everyone. We haven’t hit on this topic as often as we’d like to be true—here’s a superb piece from the essay contest we held, and some of our Auntie columns address the topic. With this in mind, we’d like to know what your gender means to you, and, more importantly, what you wish other people understood about your gender.

Take to the comments to express yourself! Your words, prescriptions, and opinions will be pulled together in a forthcoming slideshow. We’re excited to hear what you have to say.
