Who Said It: Bernie Sanders or Albus Dumbledore?

It’s Super Tuesday! What better way to wait for the results to pour in and narrow down the subjects of late-night monologues for the next nine months than to take a deep dive into one of the most overlooked issues of the campaign: the sheer Dumbledoric nature of Bernie Sanders! The parallels between Sanders, the democratic socialist running a grassroots campaign for president, and Albus Dumbledore, once the world’s most powerful wizard and the best headmaster Hogwarts has ever seen, are uncanny. They’re both old, wise, bespectacled white men in positions of power, who are often in need of a comb, have cute, grandfatherly first names, believe in the youth, and, it turns, sound quite similar. See if you can distinguish who said what with the quiz below:

1. We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.

2. Difficult times often bring out the best in people.

3. It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.

4. The consequences of our actions are always so complicated, so diverse, that predicting the future is a very difficult business.

5. Can these guys talk about anything other than their desire to go to war?

6. The struggle to try and create a more peaceful world will be extremely difficult. But this I know: despair is not an option.

7. It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.

8. The problems we face did not come down from the  heavens. They are made by bad human decisions and good human decisions can change them.

9. Perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well.

10. Not the smartest, best human being in the world can do it alone.

11. You care so much you feel as though you will bleed to death with the pain of it.

12. Age is foolish and forgetful when it underestimates youth.
