Summary: Chapter 35

Eleanor

Park’s dad tells Eleanor that she has a standing invitation for dinner. He also says that he knows Richie, and that she’s welcome to be at their house whenever she wants.

Park

Park wants more alone time with Eleanor. Park’s mom offers to give Eleanor a makeover.

Eleanor

Park’s mom puts Eleanor in the shampoo chair and begins treating her, with Park’s help. Park’s mom puts eyeliner on Park to show Eleanor how it will look, and Eleanor thinks it looks great on Park. Eleanor feels deeply uncomfortable by the whole thing, even though Park likes it. She manages to stay polite and to thank Park’s mom.

Park

Park is excited by the fact that they can look so different with makeup. The next day, he puts on eyeliner again, which makes his dad very upset. Park wonders if the other kids will make fun of him, but they barely mention the makeup. Eleanor loves it, and kisses him with tongue on the bus.

Park

Park is afraid that he’s going to be grounded. His mom asks if he wants to be a girl, and he says no. His dad won’t speak to him.

Eleanor wishes she could be alone with Park. DeNice and Beebi tell Eleanor that Park looks really cool.
