Overview

Shakespeare uses strong language to express strong feelings, both positive and negative. Students will use this worksheet to discover the meanings of Shakespeare’s words that are used as insults and endearments. Students begin by reading three sample words in context and entering definitions in the chart. Students should be able to explain their definitions based on their understanding of the text. Point out the caution in the introduction that some words on the chart are still used today but with different meanings. Pass out this worksheet before reading has begun and instruct students to work on it as they read the text.
