2019 Oscar-Nominated Films, Described in Quotes from Shakespeare

The Oscars are coming up, and with them the dawning realization that you have seen maybe two of the films. It’s not your fault! You saw Infinity War four times and Venom twice! Doesn’t that count for anything?

Unfortunately, it does not. You may have seen Infinity War four times and Venom twice, but this means you likely did not have time to see Green Book, Vice, or The Favourite and have no idea what Roma is even about. But that’s okay. Fortunately for you, I did see all of those movies, and I think I can get you up to speed using nothing but Shakespeare quotes. Here are all (well, most) (look, I didn’t have time to see ALL of them) (I was too busy watching Venom seven times) of the 2019 Oscar noms described in lines from Shakespeare.

Black Panther
“Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.”
Henry IV Part II, Act 3, scene 1

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
“O, look, sir, look, sir! here is more of us.”
The Tempest, Act 5, scene 1

A Star is Born
“[Sings drunkenly.]”
The Tempest, Act 2, scene 2

The Favourite
“Truly, an honest gentleman: but Anne loves him not;
for I know Anne’s mind as well as another does.”
The Merry Wives of Windor, Act 1, scene 4

“I think our country sinks beneath the yoke:
It weeps, it bleeds, and each new day a gash
Is added to her wounds.”
Macbeth, Act 4, scene 3

Bohemian Rhapsody
“[Hautboys playing loud music.]”
Timon of Athens, Act 1, scene 2

Incredibles 2
“Turning the accomplishment of many years
Into an hour-glass…”
Henry V, Act 1, prologue

If Beale Street Could Talk
“Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come,
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.”
— Sonnet 116

“She is cunning past man’s thought.”
Antony and Cleopatra, Act 1, scene 2

“A sister! you are she.”
Twelfth Night, Act 5, scene 1

Green Book
“I say there is no darkness but ignorance.”
Twelfth Night, Act 4, scene 2

“What, is there a maid with child by him?”
Measure for Measure, Act 1, scene 2

“In your protectorship you did devise
Strange tortures for offenders never heard of…”
Henry VI Part II, Act 3, scene 1

Ralph Breaks the Internet
“If our betters play at that game, we must not dare
To imitate them; faults that are rich are fair.”
Timon of Athens, Act 1, scene 2

Isle of Dogs
“Go get thee hence, and find my dog again,
Or ne’er return again into my sight.”
The Two Gentleman of Verona, Act 4, scene 4
