Problem : Predict the product of this reaction:

This is an intramolecular SN2 ring formation The nitrogen molecule is a good nucleophile, and acetone is a polar, protic solvent.

Problem : Predict all possible SN2 and E2 products. Assume that rotation about C-C bonds occurs.

Problem :

Does this reaction yield a SN2 or E2 product?

Neither product will be formed. There are no β-hydrogens, so E2 cannot occur. SN2 is impossible because the tert-butyl groups are much too bulky to allow backside attack.
