Why is Charlie’s family starving?

Charlie Bucket’s family is starving because they cannot afford enough food. There are seven people living in the Bucket household, and Mr. Bucket is the only member who can work. Charlie is too young to work, and the four grandparents are too old and frail to even leave their bed. Mrs. Bucket takes care of the home and the grandparents during the day. Mr. Bucket’s job at the toothpaste factory doesn’t pay a lot of money, and when the factory closes, his job sweeping streets pays even less. The cold winter makes the family feel even hungrier.

Why does Willy Wonka fire all his workers?

According to Grandpa Joe, Willy Wonka fires all his workers after he realizes that some of them are being paid by rival chocolate makers to steal his secrets. Willy Wonka decides he cannot trust normal people to staff his factory. Instead, he turns to the mysterious Oompa-Loompas, who are willing to move to his factory and live there. The Oompa-Loompas are not only kept secret from the outside world, but they work for chocolate and cacao instead of money. Therefore, no one can bribe them into giving up Wonka’s secrets.

Why are Augustus Gloop and Veruca Salt the first two children to find golden tickets?

As Grandpa George explains, “The kids who are going to find the golden ticket are the ones who can afford to buy candy bars every day.” They statistically have a higher chance. Therefore, it is no surprise that Augustus Gloop and Veruca Salt find the first two golden tickets almost immediately, because their money and indulgent parents give them access to a large amount of candy bars. Augustus Gloop eats so much chocolate that he easily finds one. Veruca Salt’s father dedicates the resources of his entire factory to unwrapping chocolate bars and finding a golden ticket, making it inevitable she would get one.

Why does Willy Wonka send out golden tickets?

Willy Wonka decides to send out golden tickets because he wants to find a child to pass his chocolate factory to after he dies. He doesn’t want to give the factory to an adult because he knows an adult would try to change things about the factory. Instead, Wonka knows that if he finds the right child, that child will learn everything Wonka knows and carry on his legacy just as he left it. The golden tickets serve as a way for Willy Wonka to choose potential candidates at random.

What happens to the other four children after their accidents?

Despite the frightening nature of the children’s accidents and the Oompa-Loompa’s scary mocking songs, all four of the bad children leave the factory alive but changed. Augustus Gloop’s trip through the pipe leaves him thinned out. Violet Beauregarde is successfully juiced, returning her to her normal shape but still bright purple. Veruca Salt and her parents are fairly unscathed, although covered from head to toe with garbage. Mike Teavee has been stretched back out and is now extremely tall and thin.
