Overview

Medieval times are both literally and figuratively “ancient history” to students today. This handout gives students important background information about aspects of medieval society that figure in The Canterbury Tales. Use this handout to spark interest and discussion in your classroom and allow students to share any questions, knowledge, or ideas they may have about this historical period. Use this information to compare and contrast medieval times with modern life and encourage students to look for commonalities they may have with people who lived so long ago.
