There are many reasons why an author might kill off a character. “To advance the plot” is one reason. “Because I hadn’t killed anybody off in a while and I was bored” is another. Simply put, authors like to kill off characters the same way I like to eat whole sleeves of Oreos—frequently, on purpose, and with reckless abandon.
Sometimes, however, authors drop the ball. As a result, a character who should have died at some point in the story somehow manages to not do that. Here are a few of those characters and why I (a nice person, I swear!) truly believe they deserved to die.
