Overview

Working with a plot map that depicts the rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution of a plot can help students better understand not only a story’s action but also the themes, characters, and overall “big picture.” Students will use this worksheet to explore the development of John, the protagonist of Brave New World. Students will find quotes in the text, read the quotes in context, identify the events on the plot map in which the quotes appear, and note their ideas about the importance of the events to John’s character development. Students will then write short essays that analyze how John changes over the course of the novel.
