Overview

One of the central questions posed in Brave New World is What is the cost of human happiness? Students will complete a chart to explore how Huxley describes happiness and connects this emotion to other themes in the novel. Students will find quotes in the text, note the context of each quote, and draw inferences and conclusions about happiness based on reading these quotes in context. After completing the chart, students will write about how the theme of happiness relates to another theme of the novel, such as technology, consumerism, or state control.
