Summarizing the plot of a narrative can sometimes be a tedious, dry process, yet summarizing is essential to attaining a deeper understanding of the text. Students will use this worksheet to make the task of summarizing more fun and memorable by writing newspaper headlines and short stories to summarize each of the novel’s three parts. Give students the opportunity to share their news stories with each other. You can pass out this worksheet once students have finished Part 1, and they can complete it as they read, or you can use this as a wrap-up activity once the novel is complete.
