Overview

Being able to summarize a complex story is a critical skill for students and reflects their ability to identify a story’s important details and synthesize those details into a succinct statement. Students will use this worksheet to summarize the three major sections of Things Fall Apart and analyze how each part advances the two major stories of the novel: the story of the colonization of the Igbo culture and the story of Okonkwo. They will then use their summaries to analyze the development of a major theme that they identify.
