Overview

Every story shares common elements that make it a “story”: setting, characters, conflict, point of view, and theme. Identifying these elements furthers understanding of a complex text. Students will use this worksheet to review five common story elements and then map these elements in a story from Achebe’s Things Fall Apart. Consider making multiple copies of the graphic organizer, or having students recreate it in their notebooks, so that they can map several different stories.
