Overview

Many critics read King Lear as an exploration of a powerful man’s descent into madness, and, in the subplot, Edgar disguises himself as a madman. Students will use this worksheet to trace this theme of madness throughout the five acts by analyzing several examples from Acts 1-3, and then finding and analyzing additional examples from Acts 4-5. Student pairs will then work together to answer the questions at the bottom of the worksheet.
