Overview

In Animal Farm, Orwell utilizes numerous words that help express the animals’ struggle for freedom. Students will use this worksheet to analyze and better understand the language of struggle used in the novel. Pass out the worksheet before reading begins so students can work as they read. Instruct students to use context clues to determine the meaning of the boldfaced words related to struggle. Then have them use context, prior knowledge, and dictionaries, if necessary, to write a synonym for each word.
