Overview

Mottos are not just words—they are powerful messages that capture a society’s ideas about its most important principles and beliefs. Students will use this worksheet to examine the animals’ use of mottos in Animal Farm. Pass out this worksheet as students begin to read the novel. Have students record mottos from the text and their literal and implied meanings, and then evaluate whether the animals stayed true to their own principles. Students will then create and share their own mottos that relate to the book.
