Overview

William Shakespeare was a master at wordplay, filling his plays with puns, both funny and serious. Students will use this worksheet to examine some of the puns used in The Merchant of Venice and explore the puns’ dual meanings. You can pass out the worksheet as students begin to read the play and have students fill in the chart as they read or use it as a concluding activity.
