Overview

Just as directors and actors interpret Shakespeare’s words differently, so do artists. Studying paintings that reflect literature helps students learn to analyze both artforms. Students will use this worksheet to study two paintings that depict Shylock and Jessica from The Merchant of Venice and then compare the representation of the characters in each piece of art. Pass out this worksheet after students have finished reading the play.
