Which is more important: justice or mercy? Students will use this worksheet to explore how characters in The Merchant of Venice would disagree when answering this question. Pass out this worksheet before the class begins reading the play. Take a moment to go over the definitions of justice and mercy. After students have completed the play and the worksheet, group them into pairs or small groups to discuss their ideas about the relative importance of justice and mercy according to the prompts on the worksheet.
