Understanding colloquialisms commonly used in a text’s setting enables readers to better understand the characters, plot, and theme. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is incredibly rich in colloquialisms. Students will use this worksheet to define colloquial terms as they are used in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Students will define the words from context and sort them into categories. Assign the worksheet after students have finished reading the novel. Students can complete this worksheet individually or in small groups.
