Overview

Part of a novel’s meaning is expressed through how one or more of the characters evolve over the course of the story. Students will use this worksheet to explore how Huck Finn’s character evolves during the course of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Students will study a plot map, read quotations from the text, and explain the significance of each quote in terms of Huck’s character development during the story. They will also use two or more of the quotes as supporting evidence in a descriptive essay on Huck’s evolution. Assign the worksheet after students have finished reading the novel. Students can work with this material individually or in small groups.
